Mount Abu - The only hill station in Rajasthan is situated in south-west end of Rajasthan.It has stunning array of exquisite Dilwara Jain Temples dating back 11th- 13th centuries ,making it a popular pilgrimage centre. Delwara Jain Temples, are sheer elegance in marble, dedicated to the Jain Tirthankaras. Places to see are Gaumukh Temple( a natural spring flowing through a sculpted cow’s head ), Adhar Devi temples and Nakki lake. Museum at the Raj Bhawan is a collection of archaeological excavations dating back to 8th-12th century A.D. It also has Jain bronze carvings,brass works etc. Sunset point provides a spectacular sight of the setting sun and hills are covered in the golden glow can be viewed from here. Other popular spots include Honeymoon point, which also offers a view of sunset, the Crags and the Shanti Shikhar. Trevor’s Tank, named after the British engineer who constructed it is a delight for bird-watchers with densely wooded hills that are a haven to pigeons, peacocks and partridges. Achalgarh is an impressive fort with some beautiful Jain Temples enclosed within.


Sightseeing at Mount Abu -
Dilwara Jain Temples : These are the main attraction of Mount Abu and some of the finest example of Jain temple architecture in India. Built between 11th & 13th century AD, the temple complex consists of two temples with beautiful marble carvings. The oldest one is the Vimal Vasahi temple, built in 1031 AD and dedicated to the first Jain Tirthankar Adinath. There is an image of Adinath in the central shrine of the temple while its courtyards, halls with carved pillars are its notable features. The later Tejpal Temple is dedicated to Neminath, the 22nd tirthankar and was built in 1230 by two brother named Tejpal and Vastupal.

Gaumukh Temple : This small temple is situated at 4 kms south of Mount Abu, dedicated to Lord Rama. It has derived its name from a natural spring flowing through the mouth of a marble cow. One has to take a path with 750 steps to reach the temple.

Nakki Lake : It is an artificial lake situated in the centre of the town and is surrounded by hills and some beautiful parks. The 14th century built Raghunath Temple is one of the major attractions near the lake. The lake also provide boating facility to its tourists.


Fairs-Festivals in Mount Abu -
There are several festivals celebrated in Udaipur with much fanfare and enthusiasm by people of all walks of life. The Mewar festival is one of the most important festival of Udaipur, which is celebrated to welcome the advent of spring. Gangaur and Teej are other festivals which are celebrated with a lot of joy in different part of the city. Rituals associated with religions, cultural events including songs, dances are major part of each festival.


Reaching Mount Abu -
By Air : Udaipur is the nearest airport. Daily flight form Delhi, Mumbai and Jaipur are available to Udaipur.
By Rail : Abu Road is the nearest railway station and is about 22 kms from Mount Abu. And well connected with Ahemdabad, Jaipur, Mumbai and Jodhpur.
By Road : Rajasthan Roadways run very comfortable deluxe buses from Jaipur and Abu Road to Mount Abu. It is also connected by road to Delhi, Udaipur, Ajmer, Bundi and Udaipur.
